A delightful surprise
I won't repeat a plot summary here, as the product description does a good job with this. At the same time, it is that very plot summary which may keep people from taking a chance on this drama -- as it almost happened with me. The 'terminally ill' premise is one which I had resented in every other drama in which I had encountered it so far ("Autumn Tale", "Stairway to Heaven" etc.), so I was reluctant to start watching "Scent of a Woman". But this drama surprised me with an amazingly fresh execution of that familiar (and dreaded) plot device, keeping my attention glued to the screen throughout the show's 16-episode run.
In the first episode, the heroine is diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 6 months to live. The really interesting thing, though, is that this drama isn't about the heroine dying; rather, it is about her finally starting to live.
I loved the heroine (played by the actress who also played the titular character in the romantic comedy "My Name is Kim...
Amazingly Addictive Drama - Hidden Treasure
Scent of a Woman (Korean) was an accidental find by my husband while surfing Netflix. It is an intriguing drama series that is well done on many levels.
While I am not a fan of sitting in front of a box watching anything instead of living real life, I must admit this movie captivated my heart and mind.
The story line is well designed/crafted and well executed by the various actors.
Each of the 16 episodes held our attention for more than an hour. My husband and I wound up watching more than one episdoe each night. It was almost like reading a really good book that you didn't want to put down.
After watching it a second time, I have had to wean myself off it.
The glimpse into the Korean culture from the writer's angle was also interesting. Their level of politeness at times to each other contradicted by a level of rudeness at other times. The human display of self-centeredness, along side a compassion for others. I do not...
best korean movie to date
Although I Don't speek Korean and have to rely on sup titles I do enjoy a good drama. The sub titles themselvs have some spelling and some grammer errors that don't seem to matter too much but there are several times when the subtitles flash across the screen so fast that there is no way to read them without pausing many times. The movie itself has more twists in the plots than most movies and has its fair share of humor and tear jerking.
